Temporary transcutaneous pacing. New indications for an old technique.
نویسنده
چکیده
ranscutaneous (external) temporary pacing ('ITP) was originally developed in the T 1950s. Although unquestionably effective, it caused extensive contraction of the chest wall muscles and diaphragm and was therefore largely abandoned with the advent of temporary transvenous pacing. Recent improvements in techniques have led to improved patient tolerance and a rekindled interest in TTP, especially in situations where transvenous pacing is unavailable. The sudden and unexpected Occurrence of bradyarrhythmias in the operating room is a potential cause of morbidity and mortality; however, those events are infrequent, even in highrisk patients, and therefore, prophylactic temporary pacing is unwarranted. The emergency insertion of a temporary transvenous pacemaker requires immediate availability of sophisticated

Long-term temporary pacing with an active fixation lead.
BACKGROUND Ensuring a haemodynamically effective cardiac rhythm is a challenge in patients waiting for pacemaker reimplantation after transcutaneous lead extraction due to an infection of the implanted system. AIM The authors report a retrospective analysis of temporary pacing with an active fixation lead (AFTP) connected to an externalised pacemaker in patients after transvenous lead extract...

Abstract: Background and Aim: Since electrocardiography (ECG) is essential for the diagnosis of pediatric asymptomatic Complete Heart Block (CHB) and it is not usually done in the preoperative evaluation of asymptomatic children, physicians might confront with asymptomatic cases of CHB at anesthesia induction. Case Report: In this study, we introduced a 31-month-old boy who faced CHB after anes...
متن کاملImproved access to temporary pacing in Denmark.
INTRODUCTION The aim was to illustrate current use of temporary pacing (TP) in Denmark by replicating a questionnaire study from 1986 and to compare the results of the two studies. MATERIAL AND METHODS The questionnaire was sent to Danish hospitals treating patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). To illustrate potential changes in the indications for TP, the questionnaire included tw...
متن کاملCardiac pacing in left bundle branch/bifascicular block patients.
The primary concern in patients with bifascicular block is the increased risk of progression to complete heart block. Further, an additional first-degree A-V block in patients with bifascicular block or LBBB might increase the risk of block progression. Anesthesia, monitoring and surgical techniques can induce conduction defects and bradyarrhythmias in patients with pre-existing bundle branch b...
